Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it’s commonly known for short, is all about getting your website ranked highly on the search engines - if you can get your site listed on the first page of the search engine results, or preferably even in first place, then you can get a lot of free traffic to your site.

But the more you read about SEO, especially if you visit the many forums that discuss this subject, the more you’ll come to realise that opinions are, at best, divided - and that’s putting it mildly.

Just a day or two ago, we came across somebody advertising something called Stupidly Simple SEO, which is a method of getting one-page micro-site indexed and listed on Google - within minutes.

Now, you have to admit that this sounds fanciful at best, especially as he claims that you don’t even need your own website either.

Just 20 minutes later, this micro-site was listed in third place on Google, immediately after Amazon’s double listing:

The above screen shot was taken at 9:18pm, so that means Google indexed it at 9:12pm - exactly 20 minutes after publishing.

Now, we still have to make some money from this micro-site, but this initial test is certainly very encouraging (and in fact my wife is working on our next micro-site at this very moment).

I wasn’t going to write another post so soon after the last one, but something unbelievable happened that I have to tell you about!

I published my post about the Whynter SNO Ice Cream Maker at 00:02 (i.e. two minutes past midnight) on 4 March 2010.

Three minutes later, at 00:05, I ran a search on Google looking to see if the post had been indexed yet - not that I was expecting it to have been that quickly, but I was setting it up so I could refresh the page occasionally to see how long it took (I was hoping for around 30 minutes).

And I have to say that I was absolutely amazed!

The post was showing as having been indexed two minutes previously, which means that Google picked up that post in just one single minute!

Wow!

I only wish I could claim that this was due to my superlative SEO skills! (I’m more than well-versed in this area, but I couldn’t honestly say that it was because of this that my post was indexed so quickly - not with a straight face, at any rate!)
