Dog Blood Types

Posted by The Random Blogger on Jan 5, 2010 in Pets, What I Learned Today

I’d never really thought about this matter until one of our customers asked us a question about it, but did you know that there are different canine blood groups?

According to Wikipedia, there are as many as 13 dog blood types, and of these, eight of the so-called Dog Erythrocyte Antigen (DEA) types are internationally-recognised as standard canine blood types.

And, just like humans, some dogs’ blood type can be considered a universal donor type (that would be DEA 1.1. Negative, in techno-speak).

Conversely, others that are known as DEA 1.1 Positive (which represents just over one third of the canine population) are universal recipients, which means that they can receive transfusions from any canine blood type without risk of adverse reactions.

My brief research took me further, and at a bit of a tangent, as I found that there are even different diets for different blood types, which is an interesting concept I may pursue, if and when I get the time.

The Nature Of Animal Healing

Posted by The Random Blogger on Dec 24, 2009 in Pets

The Nature Of Animal Healing by Martin Goldstein DVMAs somebody who has always been a pet lover (but mainly dogs), and also as somebody who has always preferred not to take chemical-based drugs of any kind, I was delighted to come across a highly-regarded book by well-known East Cost vet, Dr Martin Goldstein DVM, called “The Nature Of Animal Healing“.

There are two chapters in this book that I found particularly interesting – one on vaccinations, and why he believes they are the number one killer of dogs and cats in the USA today, and one on diet (you wouldn’t believe what they put in most commercial dog food these days).

So, if you’re looking for a great book that will help keep your pet healthy, the natural way, then I highly recommend “The Nature Of Animal Healing“.

The longer we run this business, and the more pets we help treat (we’ve dealt with over < ?php include('http://www.parvobuster.com/code/defines.php?p=3') ; ?> cases since March 2007!), the more it astounds us how so many people seem happy to sit there and watch their pets die right in front of their very eyes.

Part of the problem is Read more…
